The Broadstairs Town Shed offers elderly people, of all genders, a space to work together on woodworking projects, where they can learn, share skills and socialise together. By creating a safe, welcoming space that is focused on woodwork and carpentry, our members are able to get out of the project what they need. For some the project is a place to drop in, have a natter and return home. For others it is a lifeline, helping them reintegrate into the community after a significant life event such as bereavement, stroke, fall, or mental illness. We offer a no-time-limited programme of help and support – we are here for our members when they want to come. One of the key benefits of the Shed project is that people feel that their skills are being used and appreciated. It helps older, retired people retain the role of productive and valued community members. We have an extraordinary range of skills and experience among our Shedders and Shed Heads. They can turn their hand to most things related to woodworking and carpentry. If you have a restoration project, community project, or perhaps something you'd like to talk to us about making for you, you'd be helping us sustain the Shed for everyone.
